Chara addition

Well finally I'm getting a pic of our latest addition to Chara.

She's about 4 months old and is a little butterball!


This is Isaiah. He's in our care at GTO while his adoptive
parents prepare to come.
His story is a sad one.
He's had a rough start in his young life of 9 months.
He is one of the many victims of the tsunami.
He was in 2 Bangkok orphanages for a total of 5 months.
His treatment at the most recent one is horrifying.
For the children's baths, they would line them up on
a cement floor and hose them down.
For most of his day, he shared a standard sized hospital bed with 11 other children.
He was given muscle relaxants to keep him from crying.
At the state-run orphanage,
he was fed only 1.5 ounces every 4 hours, nothing at night.
He lost 4lbs. in the few months he was at the orphanage.
He's lost most of his sucking reflexes,
and must be patiently bottle/sippy cup fed.
He's able to take about 3 swallows,
then must rest, as his muscles are so weak.
His current weight is less than 9lbs.

Please pray for Isaiah, that he would continue to gain weight and develop.
Pray for his adoptive family too as they begin to shower him with love, nourishment,
and touch he so desperately needs.
Our prayer is that his life would testify this...
but for the grace of God.

Our boys

Wow, it's been forever since we've updated! It seems our Xanga has taken priority lately. Mucho apologies! Our little Nicky continues to grow. He's 2 months old, and is really putting on the pounds! Bailey is the typical big brother. He loves to hold him, and gets concerned when Nicky rejects his offering of the pacifier. Well, enough blabbing, here's a couple of pics...

Botanical Gardens

Saturday we went to a botanical garden about 15 minutes from our place. Acres and acres of never-ending manicured trees, shrubs, fountains, and greenhouses. They even had a mini-zoo! We took a picnic lunch, and ate it on the trolley as we toured the gardens. Fun times!

Father's Day

On Sunday we went to the pool for a Father's Day outing. There is a nice kiddie pool that Bailey can tsuddle(Pa. dutch for whatever kids do in the pool) around in.

One of the nannies bought a puppy at the market last week for $1. A screaming deal, considering the rare Lab/Cocker/Poodle/German Bernard pedigree. We took Bailey over there to see it. He loved playing with it! The poor dog barely gets any rest from the kids playing with him! We thought about getting a puppy for Bailey, then decided against it. Too much of a bother considering the upcoming birth of son #2 and furlough this fall. Also, too many fleas and diseases, let alone offspring from mangy mates. No thanks...

My desire is to keep this site as 'family friendly' as possible. However, I just had to post this picture that we took on our trip to the Burma border yesterday! We've been living here for about a year and a half and I still am awed at some of the things I see!

During the 3-day Songkron festival, the drivers remove the tops of their tuk-tuks. This allows the passengers to receive the maximum wetness bestowed upon them by others.

Songkran - The World's Largest Waterfight

"Songkran" is a word from the Sanskrit language which means to "move into" and refers to the orbit of the sun moving into Aries. It marks the end of a 12-month cycle and the beginning of a new solar year. Songkran is therefore a New Year celebration.
It has turned into the biggest water fight in the world. No one who leaves their house will come back dry, as the streets are lined with willing assassins armed with water pistols and buckets of iced water, and the roads are congested with trucks full of people also armed and executing drive-by attacks. It’s the hottest part of the year in Thailand (which is a great time to have a water festival), but also the driest with droughts raging all over the country (which is maybe not a great time to have a water festival).
Apart from marking a new beginning, Songkran is also a time for thanksgiving. It is an important time for individuals to reflect upon the many acts of kindness and thoughtfulness each has personally experienced and to remember how such acts of generosity and compassion bring peace, happiness and well-being. Songkran is also the time for reunions and family ties are renewed.
The underlying significance of Songkran is the process of cleansing and purification - the purging of all ills, misfortune and evil and starting the New Year afresh with all that is good and pure. Water is symbolic of the cleaning process and signifies purity.
Pray with us for the Thais that they could accept Jesus who will truly cleanse them and make them pure!

Today I came up on a nasty bike accident. I saw a pool of blood and 2 mopeds laying in the middle of the 4-lane highway. The apparent riders were sitting in the median strip holding their bleeding heads while they waited for the ambulance. I didn't see any helmets, and without them, a road/head battle is always won by the road... The fact that the riders were sitting up was a good sign, however.
